History of Göynük Çatak
There are no precise records on its construction. Considering it comprises of a single pool, does not have any bath basin and the structure of its dome is specific, it is though to belong to the Roman Period. Due to the fact that Hamam Deresi is located in the narrowest section of its duct, it is generally flooded. So, it may be one of the spas buried under alluvium. A number of ruins seen around confirm it. There is not any indication that an annex was constructed in the period of the Seljuk or Ottoman Empires.
Çatak Spa is located in the valley in the neighborhood of Himmetoğlu village which is in the midst of the steep slopes in 30 kilometers southeast of Göynük county. The existence of ruins dating back to the Roman period around the spa indicates that the Romans made use of this spa.
